Services
UNC REX Women’s Center offers a range of health care services, including labor and delivery care, OB hospitalists, an emergency department, a NICU for high-risk pregnancies, and pregnancy and parenting classes.
Using a birth center allows obstetricians and midwives to work collaboratively to provide care during labor and delivery. They are committed to keeping the baby safe and healthy and enable patients to have the birth experience they desire. The UNC REX experts include board-certified obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, anesthesiologists, OB hospitalists, labor and delivery nurses, and lactation consultants. Pain relief options are available during labor, including intravenous pain reliever, nitrous oxide gas, and epidural.
Specialty
UNC REX Women’s Center pregnancy and parenting classes help prepare the whole family for the arrival of a new baby. These classes are great ways for new parents to educate themselves on what is to come. Class topics include birthing, breastfeeding, newborn care, choosing a quality care provider, and much more! Birthing classes are available in person and online.
Breastfeeding classes help prepare parents for breastfeeding and teach them how to feed their babies after returning to work. This class takes place in an online offering. The Postpartum Planning class helps introduce the postpartum period. So participants will learn about how to prepare for mental and physical well-being after giving birth. This class also discusses postpartum mood disorders and resources for seeking help. Other topics include general newborn care, handling visitors, meal planning, self-care, and sleep tips.
UNC REX Women’s Center also has a NICU that coordinates the care of babies. Neonatal specialists work in this Level IV NICU, providing individualized care and support for babies with complications.
